FATAL PORTRAIT is a black metal band formed in Santander (Cantabria) in 1998. Their sound, from the beginning, has been characterized by a combination of aggression, technical structure, and an ever-present melodic component, influenced by the Scandinavian school of the 1990s. During their first phase, the band made a notable mark on the Spanish and European underground circuit. After several demos, they released their first EP, Rapture Among the Idols (1999), on the Arte de Occulta label, followed by the album An Elusive Instinct of Lascivia (2001), released by Downfall Records (Sweden). This work was well received by specialized media and consolidated the band’s identity. In 2006, they released Adventum, with a more direct approach and without keyboards, released by More Hate Productions (Russia). After this album, the group ceased its activity. In 2025, Fatal Portrait breaks a silence of almost two decades with a work that not only revisits their past but also reconstructs it from a
new artistic and sonic perspective. The band presents: An Elusive Instinct of Lascivia – REDVX (2025) This is a complete reworking of the original 2001 album. All the tracks have been reinterpreted with new arrangements, greater rhythmic and dynamic depth, and a contemporary production approach that preserves the original dark atmosphere but reinforces its emotional and narrative impact. This version offers more solid structures, a more versatile vocal performance, and an instrumental execution that emphasizes the melodic intention without losing its power. It is a work that consciously distances itself from nostalgia to offer a new, mature interpretation, faithful to the band’s spirit. An Elusive Instinct of Lascivia – REDVX is not a re-recording exercise: it is a comprehensive reconstruction of a foundational work, revisited with modern tools, artistic judgment, and a clear intention of continuity.
